Hackney singer-songwriter Mychelle returns today, March 19th, with her latest release, "You Don’t Care About Me," alongside the exciting news that she’ll join Jorja Smith on the UK leg of her tour this year. Produced by Tom Henry (one-third of Gotts Street Park), the track came to life during a studio session up north, one Mychelle almost missed after a last-minute train mishap. Her elegant songwriting creates a delicate push and pull, as her lyrics boldly declare she’s done wasting words and ready to move on. With a busy start to the year, including the recent release of "Sweet Nothings," Mychelle is gearing up for an exciting summer, with performances at Across The Tracks and Mad Cool Festival in Madrid. Beyond music, she embraces movement and adventure, bringing an ever-enthusiastic energy to everything she does. This month, she was running alongside Mo Farah and Olympic athletes for Nike inside the London Eye, an experience she shared with her community, as she regularly updates them on her sporting pursuits.
Born and raised in Stoke Newington, just a stone’s throw from Clissold Park, Mychelle grew up in a home filled with music. The middle of three sisters, all drawn to singing and performing, she picked up a guitar at age 10, only to set it aside until 17, when she found her way back to it. Encouraged by mentors in school and university, she found an early kindred spirit in a close friend, forming her first girl group in her early years. Mychelle was driven to pursue music but had one obstacle to overcome: shyness. Instead of shying away, she chose the boldest path, busking. Her raw, soulful performances became part of London’s streets for over four years, turning the city into her training ground and stage. Then, one day at London Bridge, fate stepped in, and her talent caught the attention of FAMM, the label that would go on to sign her. The rest, as they say, is history. Busking didn’t just refine Mychelle’s artistry; it became her rehearsal space, proving ground and the force that helped her shed her fears. As she steps into a new chapter, she remains deeply connected to everything that fuels her, whether on the football field, basketball court, running track, or, most importantly, the stage. A fierce competitor in music and life, Mychelle continues to push her boundaries, driven by the same fire that started it all.
Her journey has earned her support from The Metro, Evening Standard, Dork, and Clash, alongside airplay from DJ Target, Adele Roberts and Jamz Supernova. With a growing discography, including standout EPs like Closure (2021), Someone Who Knows (2022), It’s Not You, It’s Me (2023), and the stripped-back Me & Gaz (2024), Mychelle continues to carve out her space in the industry. Her collaboration with ENNY on “Forbidden Fruit” (from Someone Who Knows) remains a fan favourite with close to 2.5 million plays, proving that her storytelling and soulful delivery resonate deeply. Mychelle has graced stages at the Montreux Jazz Festival (CHE), George Ezra and Friends, Board-masters, Deershed, Into the Great Wild (NL) and Michael Kiwanuka tour support. 2025 has started stellarly with the release of “Sweet Nothings”, her latest ahead of her next project. The track received widespread support from BBC 1Xtra (Remi Burgz) – Tune Of The Week,Victoria Jane’s BBC Radio 1 show, Wonderland, COLORS, Blues Project, The Line of Best Fit, and more.
MYCHELLE BIO 2025
Born and raised in Stoke Newington, just a stone’s throw from Clissold Park, Mychelle grew up surrounded by music. As the middle of three sisters, all drawn to singing and performing, she first picked up a guitar at age 10, though it wasn’t until she was 17 that she truly embraced it. Encouraged by mentors throughout school and university, she found an early musical connection in a close friend, forming her first girl group.
Despite her passion, shyness was an early obstacle, but instead of retreating, Mychelle chose the boldest route possible: busking. Her raw, soulful performances became a staple of London’s streets for over four years, transforming the city into her stage and training ground. Then, one fateful day at London Bridge, her talent caught the attention of FAMM (home to Jorja Smith & Maverick Sabre), the label that would go on to sign her. Busking didn’t just shape Mychelle’s artistry; it became her rehearsal space, proving ground, and the force that helped her shed her fears.
Mychelle debuted with the single “The Way”, released via FAMM / The Orchard. Accompanied by a video shot on Hackney Downs and directed by Michaela Quan (Vogue, The Face), the track was met with overwhelming support, landing her on major streaming playlists, including Spotify’s "New Music Friday", Apple Music’s "New Music Daily", and Vevo’s "UK DSCVR Surface". The single was part of her 2021 debut project, ‘Closure EP, ’ which received widespread acclaim across BBC networks. It earned heavy rotation from DJs like DJ Target, Adele Roberts, and Jamz Supernova, the latter naming it her EP of the Week. Mychelle was later invited to perform on DJ Target’s ‘Tonight with Target’ TV show, marking a major milestone in her rising career.
In 2022, Mychelle’s sophomore EP, ‘Somebody Who Knows’, solidified her place as one of the UK’s most exciting new voices. The project received glowing reviews from The Line of Best Fit, Clash, Trench Mag, GRM, and many more, alongside radio support from BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, Apple Music, and playlisting at Rinse FM, Represent, and Foundation FM. The lead single, “Forbidden Fruit”, featured rap phenomenon ENNY, leading to Mychelle being selected as a Spotify ‘Radar: First Listen’ artist. The EP’s release was celebrated with a sold-out headline show at The Lexington and a breathtaking performance at Jorja Smith and FAMM’s show at KOKO. That summer, she graced European festival stages, including the Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Boardmasters, Deershed, and Into the Great Wild (Netherlands), and supported Michael Kiwanuka on tour.
Spring 2023 saw the release of Mychelle’s third EP, ‘It’s Not You, It’s Me’, a sonic evolution that pushed her artistry forward while staying true to her R&B and neo-soul roots. The project weaved in elements of indie, folk, and acoustic pop, with standout tracks like “Tightrope”, “Hurts”, and “Magical” earning critical praise from Evening Standard, The Independent, gal-dem, DORK, Clash, Trench, and The Line of Best Fit, among others.
2025 has started stellarly with the release of “Sweet Nothings”, her latest ahead of her next project. Produced by Fred Cox, the song is a quiet yet powerful declaration of self-contentment, as Mychelle confidently makes it clear she has no desire for an ex-lover to return. The track received widespread support from Victoria Jane’s BBC Radio 1 show, Wonderland, COLORS, Blues Project, The Line of Best Fit, and more. Mychelle also landed the cover of Spotify’s UK R&B Playlist and prime placements on R&B Weekly and New Music Friday.
With an effortlessly flawless vocal style and deeply personal songwriting, Mychelle has established herself as a mesmerising and memorable artist who continues to captivate audiences with authenticity and soul. As she steps into a new chapter, she remains deeply connected to the passions that fuel her, whether on the football field, basketball court, running track, or stage. A fierce competitor in music and life, she continues to push boundaries with the same fire that started it all.
