Actor, musician, singer-songwriter and producer Jim Sturgess, aka King Curious, emerges back into the ether with his explosive new single “ANXIETY” — set for release April 10th, 2024.

Following last year’s singles “A Premonition Of A Lonely Soul” and “The Hollowman Come” ft. Sister, the acclaimed actor-turned-musician Jim Sturgess continues to build anticipation under his King Curious moniker with a powerful new record – the latest offering from his anticipated upcoming album confirmed for later this year.

“ANXIETY” sees Sturgess tap critically acclaimed US rapper Solemn Brigham, one half of hip-hop duo Marlowe, and rising UK grime artist, Brownsilla to conjure an intense soundtrack layered with pulsing kick drums, electric riffs and bleary synth work. Skipping between the three artists - Brigham’s vocals, Brownsilla’s sleek bars and Sturgess’ echoing chorus exclaiming “this nervous feeling is creeping into my bones”, the creative, imaginative tones and crashing basslines conjure allusions to Gorillaz or Ian Brown, alongside a sleekly shot visual paying homage to the cult British folk horror film ‘The Wicker Man’, it’s clear King Curious comes brimming from a deep well of iconic British culture.

Speaking on the new single, Sturgess states: “I've had various issues with Anxiety for most of my adult life - and so I wanted to take on writing a song about it. It felt like the track needed to be a more defiant stand up to anxiety, rather than a depressive internal outlook on the issue. A kind of playful fight with my nervous system, because that's how it often feels... like a battle with yourself.”

The critically-acclaimed London talent first rose to prominence with his breakthrough acting role in musical romance, ‘Across the Universe’, going on to appear in the likes of ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ with Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson and ‘Cloud Atlas’, before landing the lead male role in the acclaimed 2011 film ‘One Day’ alongside Anne Hathaway that’s recently been reinvigorated as a hit Netflix series.

Meanwhile Sturgess looks set to garner serious attention around his debut body of work later this year, with critical attention already coming from the likes of THE EVENING STANDARD and THE INDEPENDENT. A considered eye on music, and with the kind of deeper introspection that underlines a keen intelligence, the London polymath looks set to underline himself as a formidable rising musical talent as well as one of the UK’s most prominent cult actors.
