Today - 15th January - London’s rising singer-songwriter and producer, Reuben Aziz releases the deluxe edition of his debut project ‘how did we end up here?’. Reuben released the original version in September [2024] and has since continued to make an impact with his viral freestyle performed via On The Radar - co-signed by Zack Bia, Jammer and Reiss Nelson - as well as his first headline show at The Grace. Reuben showcased his singing, rapping and guitar-playing abilities during his performance before inviting new-gen frontrunners Proph and Odzmoney onto the stage as special guests. A standout track on the night was ‘Stick Around’ a confessional R&B ballad backed by the 21-year-old’s falsetto produced by Reuben alongside GX (Potter Payper, Nines, Avelino). ‘Stick Around’ was co-signed by Stormzy earlier this year when Reuben initially teased the song on his TikTok and his fans have been highly anticipating it ever since. Recent single ‘Always Come Back’ peels back layers of Reuben’s personal life complimented by his drive to push his creativity to the limit before ‘Part 2’ which was an alternative outro to his single ‘day+night’ alongside US Rapper wolfacejoeyy.
“The deluxe has been coming for a long time. We had a shortlist of 50 songs going into this, but we always knew “Stick Around” would be at the centre of it, considering the fans have been waiting so long for it. I’m grateful we got past the initial sampling issue. “More” is the first song I made after the hype of ‘find u’ so it’s a bit of a full circle moment and nice way to finish the project.”
Southampton-born, London-based Reuben Aziz is a self-taught vocalist and guitar player who began writing music at ten and producing at fourteen; it’s safe to say music was his first love. His Father has always had a significant impact on his appreciation for music. He cites Tupac, The Fugees, and DMX as his earliest inspirations before discovering the likes of Pharrell and Frank Ocean. He takes inspiration from his peers and life and is poised to reflect relatable feelings throughout his music. Since releasing his debut project ‘how did we end up here’ in September, Reuben Aziz has continued attracting momentum around his name. Having pivoted from a career as a professional basketballer to follow his dreams of becoming a musician, Reuben relocated from his hometown in Southampton to London. With dedication running through his DNA, he’s channeled his entire focus and energy into perfecting his craft. Having earned an initial fanbase from his Rap freestyles on TikTok, Reuben has continued to sharpen his skills, which have recently gone viral on Balamii Radio and On The Radar. Despite the variety of sonic twists on ‘how did we end up here’ Reuben see’s the importance of being himself, which has helped cultivate fans in Clint419, Jim Legxacy and more. Earlier this year, Reuben supported Artemas on their UK and European tour, which saw him perform live acoustic renditions of his discography and covers, which helped garner new fans beyond London.
With no limits to his growth, 'how did we end up here' is the foundation of a special 2025 for Reuben Aziz who looks to cement his position in the thriving UK R&B scene.
